DOC — Dynamic Operational Climatologist

Technical overview of the live Weather AGI stack. DOC delivers independent analysis and conversational intelligence; NWS remains the official observation/forecast backbone and comparison baseline.

Performance vs NWS

Scorekeeping only — DOC does not copy NWS as its model

Temperature agreement (live sample): DOC 66.4°F vs NWS 66.2°F · abs error 0.2°F

On the 7 Aug 2026 audit window, surface temps tracked within roughly 1–3 °F of KROC depending on observation age. Lower abs_error means DOC is closer to official observations — not that DOC is NWS.

Architecture layers

Primary

  • NWS API — observations, grid forecasts, alerts
  • Grok / DOC AGI — narrative synthesis & chat
  • DOC independent model — CAPE/shear proxies with hard caps

Enrichment & media

  • FIRMS wildfire hotspots
  • RainViewer proxy + IEM NEXRAD/GOES tiles
  • OpenWeatherMap tiles (optional key)
  • NOAA NCEI climate (when token configured)

Live vs planned

Live: surface obsLive: 7-day NWS periodsLive: DOC severe proxiesLive: media + RainViewerLive: public chat/researchPlanned: RAOB / RAP / HRRR soundingsPlanned: multi-model ensemblesPlanned: full token-gated API tiers

Upper-air / radiosonde / RAP-HRRR grids are not ingested. The system correctly refuses to invent soundings and surfaces external SPC/RUC links instead.

DOC independent / proxy parameters — not a radiosonde, not NWS guidance, not RAP/HRRR model-grid data. Do not use for operational severe decisions without official SPC/NWS products.
